Flurry of checks by the police to ensure compliance with the "made in Italy" agri-food chain, with particular attention to imports and traceability of food destined for Italian tables.
They were arranged by the Ministry of Agriculture and they also concerned Sardinia and in particular the port of Olbia , where the teams of the Masaf Joint Forces Cabin of Regina went into action in recent days.
«There are two types of checks carried out - they explain to the ministry -: on imported durum wheat intended for human consumption and on the Made in Italy supply chains . As regards the extraordinary "Durum wheat" control program, at the end of January 2024, 19 motor vessels and 11 different operators were checked, with 21 samples taken . The inspected quantity, introduced through the ports, amounts to approximately 420 thousand tons of durum wheat intended for human consumption ."
«All the samples analyzed – adds Masaf – were found to correspond to the regulations in force, with the exception of a sample of durum wheat of Turkish origin, which was found not to comply with the limits set for organic farming».
Only in the last week, in addition to Olbia, the ports of Bari, Catania, Palermo and Pozzallo were monitored, with "specific inspection activities to combat unfair commercial practices ", accompanied by traceability checks on 15 operators transporting fruit and vegetables , meat, dairy and oil products .
«The data from the first report of the activities of the Joint Control Room on agri-food controls – comments Minister Francesco Lollobrigida – demonstrate the change of pace of the Government which, in close contact with the police, works to guarantee legality. Thanks to the increase in inspections and their evident effectiveness, there is no room for those who want to operate outside the rules . Our control system – continues the minister – is recognized as among the best in the world and, once again, its robustness and the Ministry's commitment to protecting quality production are confirmed. As the data shows, Italy is one of the nations that carries out the most checks and incorrect producers are a minority."
