Waves of migrant landings in Sulcis have resumed: mayors appeal to the Prefecture

With the return of good weather, the route from Algeria to the southwestern coast of Sardinia is reopening. In recent days, more than 40 migrants have landed on the Sulcis coast, including women and children.
"This is the place where the last migrants landed last week," says the mayor of Sant'Anna Arresi, Paolo Dessì, from Porto Pino.
«There were ten migrants: one was also ill, he was rescued by 118».
This phenomenon highlights not only the issue of reception, but also the organizational difficulties of the regions that are first faced with managing these arrivals.
"The initial reception," Dessì continues, "is to immediately manage people from a humane perspective and keep them waiting until Frontex arrives to complete all the necessary procedures. We have also asked the prefect to, if necessary, put us in a position to best coordinate a situation that is extraordinary but has become routine."
Beyond reception, the mayors also point the finger at the small boats seized after disembarkation. "These boats are seized, or even arrive within the port or on the beaches, and then we don't know what to do: they should be considered evidence of the crime," explains Sant'Antioco Mayor Ignazio Locci. "There's a system that welcomes them, that takes charge, but then all the aspects that negatively impact our communities need to be coordinated."
