Another recognition for the typical bread of Villaurbana. In fact, one of its over 60 types, the “coccoi” known by the Villaurbanesi as “Su Pei del Boi”, has become a Traditional Agri-food Product of Sardinia. The result is the fruit of the collaboration between the Municipality and the Cultural Association of Popular Traditions “Biddobrana”, with the support of Dr. Alessandra Guigoni, within the “Trigu” project funded by the Ministry of Culture through the PNRR.
"Another very important piece has been added - comments Mayor Paolo Pireddu - to the great work that the community of Villaurbana has been carrying out for many years now for the enhancement and protection of its bread. The work carried out by the association and by Dr. Guigoni, in synergy and unity of purpose with the path put in place by the municipal administration also and above all through the Bando Borghi, has borne fruit".
At the moment the green light has been given for the registration of one typology, but in the future we could work on the registration of other typologies typical of Villaurbana bread-making. «A project – comments Alessandra Guigoni – carried out with the aim of giving regional relevance, and not only, through official recognition. I was involved in the research project and after interviewing the elders on processing methods and types of bread, we managed to obtain inclusion in the list». «A first step – comments Daniel Meloni, president of the “Biddobrana” Association – for a broader recognition of Villaurbana bread, which has its own history to protect and maintain over the years».
