The new hospitals, the stadium, territorial continuity, up to the "catchphrase" of re-nomination, as he himself defines it at the end of the broadcast. Guest on Radar's Videolina, interviewed by Nicola Scano, the president of the Region Christian Solinas addresses the news of his government, engaged in the last months of the legislature.
Starting with healthcare , the sector that continues to record the highest percentage of friction: «Anyone who followed the 2019 electoral campaign», explains Solinas, «knows that I said that investing in healthcare construction would be fundamental in my programme, building four new hospitals ». A project, that of the president, held back by the years of the pandemic, during which, he explains, he "worked hard to have financial coverage: I speak of this having set aside a billion and a half for the realization". And now the time would be ripe: "It's been fifty years since hospitals have been built in Cagliari," he continues. «The Brotzu was designed in the '60s, the works started in '71 and it was completed in '82'. I think you deserve a new home .' And of course it will take some time, but while the new structures are being built, the existing one will continue to operate. Solinas explains it with a metaphor: «It's like building a new house. Until it is ready, one does not destroy the previous one».
And in the new structure, there will be room for both Brotzu and Oncology, which are already part of a single company, but in two separate buildings. The president of the Region underlines the importance of rationalisation, both for a question of efficiency and for a question of savings. Then the focus on personnel shortages: "If there are no doctors, it is because the turnover when necessary has not been carried out , if there are none, it is because there is access to a programmed number which means that there are fewer professionals than needed" .
The other stumbling block is that of timing, which cannot be short on construction, but on this front Solinas is optimistic: "From an engineering point of view, a hospital of that size can be built in 24-30 months ". The months "to be cut", in this respect, would seem to be those preceding the start of the works, those relating to bureaucracy. Then the governor also clarified on another aspect: «Someone, with an evident exploitation, has made it clear that the investments are destined for the restructuring of the Brotzu. In reality there was talk of a parallel technological plate , which does not restructure one square metre».
From hospitals we move on to the stadium, for which an "exclusive" chapter does not seem to be on the agenda: "I understand the interest, but health must go at least hand in hand ", then the president tackles the question of the suburbs where " there are dramatic situations. There is a moral obligation for politics. I am also sorry that an amendment to the 40 million euro associated with public housing was removed in committee".
The other hot topic is that of transport , in particular after the recent news events, with eight-hour gaps in connections: «We cannot speak of territorial continuity», he maintains, «when the island is disconnected from dry land for so long ." Yet on these issues Solinas says he is cautiously optimistic, partly because this time he can count on the support of the government, partly because in a year it will be time for European elections, with a possible change of scenario that could play in Sardinia's favor.
A Sardinia that finds itself having to deal with some critical issues also on the road front: the president is commissioner for ten different arteries , many of which, he points out, «without the necessary financial coverage. Then there was the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the rise in raw material prices». Works therefore, from his point of view more complex than what has been said, but he does not want to hear about delays: « They are works that have been waiting for 30 years ». So Solinas draws up a map of the next moves, from Sassari-Alghero to Olbia-Arzachena-Palau, up to the safety of the 130 and the crossroads at grade between Cagliari and Decimomannu: «As the construction sites on the 131 demonstrate, the works are there. They create inconvenience, but in the end we will have a smoother, safer and more up-to-date network».
Finally, the Einstein Telescope , «an epoch-making project that can change the future not only of the Lula area, but of the whole of Sardinia», and the re-nomination . On this last topic, Solinas doesn't say too much: «I've been in politics for a sufficient number of years to understand that re-nominations are a catchphrase. I made a commitment with the Sardinians, and now I want to carry out everything I promised in this legislature. I had to face the interruption of the pandemic, and it would be important to have continuity to finish what I started ». The president explains that the definitive choice will only be made close to the elections: "We will decide when the time comes" .
