Stop the construction of renewable energy plants for 18 months : this is what the so-called "save Sardinia" law provides, which has received its first green light. The fourth and fifth commissions of the Regional Council, in a joint session, approved by majority the council's amendment which essentially rewrites the text specifying in detail the specific territorial areas subject to safeguard measures and prohibitions. «The new text - explained the councilor for local authorities Francesco Spanedda at the end of the meeting - introduces a sort of urban planning grid which serves to specify the cases in which the constructions can proceed and those in which it is instead appropriate to suspend them for this period, pending the approval of the law on suitable areas".

"Substantially - added the representative of the Todde council - it is a question of maintaining the possibility of creating plants that do not involve further land consumption or that involve their construction in areas that have already been extensively built up". The other three amendments presented to the commission by the opposition did not pass, in particular the one on the so-called "repowering" , i.e. the possibility of adapting existing plants with a technology update, which allows greater powers with less infrastructure. However, as written in the council's corrective, the so-called "revamping" is granted, the possibility of improving the efficiency of already existing systems with an adjustment of the same power. «The "repowering" - clarified the councilor -, although it is a positive operation regarding land consumption, involves a series of implementations and issues that are still open, so it did not seem useful to us to include it at this time within the amendment, but there is no general preclusion."

Now the commissions are waiting to receive the opinion of the Cal before definitively approving the text and sending it for examination by the House, which could begin as early as next Tuesday, 25 June. For the opposition, the council's text, as amended, presents several critical issues as it specifies cases and areas that are already protected and restricted. This is the case of the project to upgrade the Nulvi Ploaghe wind farm proposed by Erg Wind Energy and Erg Wind Sardegna in the area close to the Basilica of Saccargia, a symbolic place chosen by the regional coordination of the committees against energy speculation for the large popular demonstration promoted last Saturday in Saccargia.
