It's almost official, mandatory outdoor mask also in Cagliari starting this weekend. But only in the shopping streets.

The mayor Paolo Truzzu announced this in the city council, talking about the new anti Covid measures coming for the Christmas period.

"This morning we had a meeting of the public order and safety committee, convened by the prefect to update on the new rules foreseen by the Super Green Pass", said the mayor. "I took advantage of the opportunity to propose the use of masks also to the open, limiting its introduction to some particular places that are at risk of crowding during the Christmas period ".

Truzzu refers to "city center, shopping streets, historic center districts" and "the Poetto promenade", but the latter only on Saturday and Sunday morning. The obligation, this the mayor's proposal, will be in force only in certain time slots "those in which the greatest influx is expected".

The proposal "was welcomed not only by the prefect and police forces, but also by the representatives of the trade associations".

It is now a question of "filing out" the various details of the ordinance that "between tonight and tomorrow we will send to the prefect for the last viewing".

The provision will come into effect this weekend, "so from Friday afternoon", said the mayor.

"The infections - is Truzzu's reasoning - are growing and we don't know much about the Omicron variant, so it is necessary to be very cautious. We must absolutely avoid that Sardinia passes into the yellow zone and let Cagliari families and commercial activities pass a Christmas in serenity. It is necessary to make small sacrifices especially on the hottest days of Christmas shopping and in the areas of greatest congregation ".
