One more ship from Olbia and the will to satisfy the needs related to the transport of live animals and processing waste during the summer . This is the balance of the face-to-face meeting - which took place today by videoconference - between the regional councilor for transport, Antonio Moro and the representatives of the shipping companies.
«Today's meeting – explained the exponent of the Giunta Solinas –, convened following the numerous solicitations received , above all from the category organisations, served to shed light on the critical issues that have arisen in recent weeks. The managers of the companies have confirmed the difficulties in proceeding with the loading of loads of live animals and slaughtering waste in the so-called Ro-Pax ships (passengers, cars, trucks and trailers) with closed garages, due to the high temperatures that develop inside and of the non-secondary question linked to the miasmas that these loads cause».

Cin Tirrenia , with the administrator Massimo Mura, confirmed the availability of the company to embark - even during the summer months - the horses on the Ro-Pax ships in service on the Genoa-Porto Torres, Genoa-Olbia, Livorno-Olbia and Civitavecchia-Olbia. All in compliance with the provisions contained in the specific agreement stipulated at the time with the breeders' association. During the summer months, the only lines on which loads with live animals and slaughterhouse waste can be embarked are the freight ships Livorno-Olbia and Livorno-Cagliari, twice a week.
Positive feedback also from Grimaldi , with the line manager Giovanni Balletta, who confirmed the regular embarkation of horses, also in the summer period, on the Ro-Pax routes Livorno-Olbia, Civitavecchia-Cagliari, Naples-Cagliari. In this case, live animals and slaughterhouse waste can only be embarked on the freight-only routes Genoa-Porto Torres, Livorno-Cagliari and Salerno-Cagliari which operate three times a week.

Corsica Ferries communicated that – during the summer – no live animals will be loaded on the Golfo Aranci-Livorno line. Grendi – which allows the embarkation of live animals and processing waste on all its routes – then announced the use, by mid-July, of another freight-only ship on the Olbia-Marina di Carrara route.

Despite the news announced «some critical issues remain. But we can say that the inconvenience for the operators seems destined to be mitigated if not completely eliminated», concluded councilor Moro.
