Torchlight procession against violence against women: in Porto Torres the memory of Alina, the smile of Ilaria
Also in the procession were the Saladdino sisters: one of the two survived the murderous fury of her ex-partner Fulvio Baule, who killed their parents with blows from an axeVideo di Mariangela Pala
A red thread that unites, lit torches, lights that have crossed the city center of Porto Torres, as the hope of putting, one day, an end to violence against women victims of femicide.
“Let’s write a new page and make a difference… together”: this is the title of the initiative organized by the local Fidapa section in Porto Torres, which was held this evening, November 25, on the occasion of the International Day against Gender Violence, made official by the United Nations in 1999. Many, men and women, boys and girls, volunteers and members of the city associations, participated in the torchlight procession, which started from the lawn in front of the Aragonese tower and, along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, continued to the Basilica of San Gavino, with some stops at the corner of Via Petronia, at the De Amicis school and on the steps of the church, each characterized by readings that paid homage to the woman and invited people to reflect on gender violence.
"Those voices still shriek, like sharp blades, invigorated by the freezing winter cold and granting courage to hundreds of red shoes. Stories that encounter hypocrisy, that demand education and a new culture of respect", is the reading of "Scarpe che parla..storie che camminano" written by Roberta Gallo.
In front of the basilica, a circle of love, which also included sisters Giusy and Ilaria Saladdino, the latter having survived the attack of her ex-husband Fulvio Baule , the same man who that day, February 26, 2022, killed their parents, Basilio Saladdino and Liliana Mancusa. Together they gave life to the flash mob with the anti-violence gesture #SignalForHelp, the hashtag that characterizes the international symbol made of a hand to signal a dangerous situation. The evening ended with the awarding of prizes for the works presented in the morning at the impromptu painting event “Libera l'arte... libera le Donne” in the Comprehensive Institute number 2.
We could not miss the memory of Alina Cossu , killed 36 years ago, a murder that remained unpunished .
A thought also for the grave mourning that struck the city last Friday, Gildo and Gavino Puledda, father and son killed in the accident on the Sassari-Ittiri road: two lanterns left free lit up the sky. The initiative promoted by Fidapa, was attended by the parishes of Turrita, religious and lay associations, together with the Consulta del Volontariato Portotorrese, Rotary Club Porto Torres, Inner Wheel District 208-Italy, Rotaract Club, Lions Club Porto Torres, the scout groups Agesci and Cngei and many citizens.
