Comipa (Italian Military Association) has rejected the schedule for the second semester of exercises at Sardinia's ranges, which are scheduled to take place between September and December in Quirra-Perdasdefogu, Teulada, Capo Frasca, and S'Ena Ruja. Five civilian members of the Joint Committee on Military Easements on the Island have expressed a negative opinion on the activities proposed by the Ministry of Defense. Minister Guido Crosetto will now authorize them with a decree.
A political act, that of the Regional Council representatives within the body responsible for discussing all military matters in Sardinia, was born—by law—with the aim of "harmonizing" the military presence with the needs of the territory and the population. But the harmony between civilians and military components, after three approved calendars, was lost. And the last one was rejected.
Those who voted against (Monica Macciotta, Gianni Aramu, Antonio Canu, Paolo Erasmo, and Egidio Didu) during the meeting with representatives of the Armed Forces represented all the reasons for the discontent: the Ministry of Defense was accused of a "conspiracy of silence," given that detailed communications on activities are not forthcoming, and when they do arrive, they are late. Furthermore, requests sent via certified email from civilian members are not being responded to . Nothing is known about the characterizations within the Teulada Range after the grazing ban due to the presence of heavy metals. The cleanup of the Delta peninsula has not begun.
Additionally, clarification was requested regarding unspecified "companies" that would use the ranges for military purposes. Furthermore, there was the possibility that the schedule would be subject to changes after approval.
Now Crosetto will impose the exercises. But one political fact is certain: a new conflict could arise over military easements in Sardinia.
