Too many victims of the road, the appeal of the father of Najibe who died in Viale Marconi: «Boys, protect your life»

" Guys, protect your life : be careful when you are driving, do not get behind the wheel if you are tired or drunk, do not get in a car with strangers. A father who lost his daughter in a car accident tells you this: the pain haunts us forever, and it is excruciating ." The words of Omar Zaher, father of Najibe who died in the tragic crash in 2023 on Viale Marconi together with three other very young people , made everyone reflect on the day of the regional competition "A Spasso in Sicurezza", organized by the Highway Police for Sardinia at the Fiera di Cagliari.
An initiative to raise awareness among young people with exercises in the square, information stands and a debate inside the Palazzo dei Congressi , on the day unfortunately of a new tragedy with the death of a motorcyclist, in Sant'Antioco, due to the consequences of an accident that occurred last night .
" Distraction is one of the main causes of road accidents," recalled the director of the Highway Police, Domenico Chierico , "and we must do our utmost to reduce the number of accidents. We do it with on-site checks but also with these awareness days aimed at the drivers of tomorrow." Last year, there were 114 road victims in Sardinia, two more than in 2023 and 13 more than in 2022.
Thus the Fair was transformed into a large stage in the presence of approximately 800 students from all over Sardinia and the main institutions .
An event made possible by the collaboration with the Fire Department, Anas Sardinia, Automobile Club d'Italia, Ctm, Fiab of Cagliari and the Emergency Health Service.
The simulation of a very serious accident with deaths and injuries was well attended : the kids witnessed all the operations, with the involvement of the Highway Police, Fire Brigade, rescuers, civil protection and Anas.
Ten schools that participated in the "A Spasso in Sicurezza" competition were awarded and the short film entitled "Run" was broadcast, written and performed by Riccardo Leonelli and directed by Filippo Lupini, which addresses the aspects related to the consequences deriving from road accidents and how they influence the lives of the parties involved.
