« We want to build a path with the territory, with patients, with doctors and talk about the concrete problems that we have only stated today. I will shortly be the one to ask for the territorial socio-health conference to be convened to start working ."
The President of the Region Alessandra Todde, alongside the Health Councilor Armando Bartolazzi, spoke today at the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro in front of over 100 people, including healthcare workers, regional councilors and administrators.
Doctors and administrators have raised a long list of problems: from the blockage of the Orthopedics department, to the extreme suffering of the neurosurgery, from the problems of the two surgery departments to the emergency room with only 5 operating doctors.
«We are in difficulty with patients to whom we have to tell that unfortunately certain specialties such as Orthopedics are not available - said the head doctor of the emergency room Michela Matta -. So we take on the problem personally, perhaps using our knowledge and asking favors from other colleagues from different hospitals. This must not happen." «This hospital needs to be relaunched - reassured councilor Bartolazzi - but to do this we must make it attractive with high-level doctors who can train other doctors. We must be able to plan, work with universities and expand the training network, with specialists also in hospitals in other areas of Sardinia, in agreement with the universities of Cagliari and Sassari".
All the mayors gathered fought on the shortage of general practitioners and on the presence of the Ascots which do not give the desired answers : «The Ascots are not the best, but unfortunately while waiting to recruit other doctors we must make them work. In recent months we have doubled the grant for general medicine residents from 11 thousand euros to 22 thousand."
«We have been operational for three months - highlighted Todde - and it cannot be said that we are not working. We are in an emergency and the way forward is to carry out a reconnaissance and redistribution of the doctors who work mostly in the centers of Cagliari and Sassari. Then if the emergency persists we could also recruit foreign doctors. However, I ask you to all work together on the concrete problems of this area."
