They abandoned their waste on the street, tightly closed inside plastic garbage bags. In Sant'Antioco, where the fight against uncivilized people is intensifying, two people were reported. Thanks to the collaboration of the company that manages the Urban Hygiene service, two citizens ended up in trouble, "pinched" by the contents of the envelopes, opened during the inspections.
«I appeal to the civic sense and responsibility of the entire community of Sant'Antioco – comments the mayor Ignazio Locci – to keep our island healthy, to preserve its decorum, everyone needs to do their part. Those who do not fulfill their duty are a small part: a minimal portion which nevertheless creates enormous damage, both to the environment and to the image of our earth. For this reason I ask for everyone's collaboration, also by reporting any behavior deemed incorrect to our offices, to the Local Police, to the Barracella Company."
The abandonment of waste is now considered a criminal crime: the old administrative sanction of 300 to 3,000 euros has given way to a fine ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 euros, with a doubled penalty if it involves hazardous waste. «It must be clear – continues the mayor – that we have no intention of silently tolerating the incorrect behavior of those who, without any hesitation, decide to get rid of their waste , be it furniture, mattresses, bags full of rubbish, in the streets or in the open countryside, instead of disposing of it correctly and for free at our municipal Ecocentre , which provides an excellent service and is open every day in this season, including Sundays. Our battle continues incessantly with the use of cameras positioned in the urban fabric, photo traps but also, as already mentioned, with the use of the banal but equally effective method of opening abandoned envelopes."
An appeal to citizens also from the municipal councilor with responsibility for the Environment Mario Esu, who underlines the need to collaborate on waste disposal especially in the summer period, «when the work of our Urban Hygiene Service, including that of the municipal offices, grows significantly , in a proportional manner to the amount of waste to be included in the correct disposal cycle".
