The Galsi, the Algeria-Sardinia gas pipeline , will be built. And Italy, according to the president of Confindustria Carlo Bonomi , can thus become a " European hub for gas ".

The Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed the agreement between the two countries , who today received Giorgia Meloni . Bonomi and the CEO of Eni, Claudio De Scalzi , also accompanied the premier.

«We have reached an agreement with Italy to carry out a project for a new gas pipeline arriving in Sardinia. It will be a special pipeline that is not similar to the existing one. It will carry gas, hydrogen, ammonia and even electricity », said the Algerian president during the joint press conference with Giorgia Meloni which was held at the presidential palace in Algiers and broadcast by Algerian state television.

The implementation period will be determined by the technicians, added Tebboune, specifying that in any case "it will be short-lived" .

Galsi, specified the Algerian president when answering questions from journalists, should initially arrive in Porto Botte, South Sardinia, in the San Giovanni Suergiu area. The connection would then continue by land to Olbia, where a submarine section would carry the gas to Piombino, in Tuscany .

"Today, faced with the energy crisis that the EU is experiencing, Algeria can become the world leader in certain productions and Italy is the gateway to access this energy ," underlined Giorgia Meloni.

Today was the first stage of what Giorgia Meloni calls the Mattei Plan: «We are focusing on the Mediterranean, North Africa has a priority and Algeria is a stable, strategic and long-lived partner. We will be making trips to other North African countries in the coming weeks, but we had to start from here ».
