The Christmas crib made of only bread. A beautiful tradition that in Olmedo, a town in the Alghero hinterland, has lasted for years and is greatly appreciated by visitors. Yesterday evening the inauguration of the nativity scene at the Nostra Signora di Talia church, where the white figurines will be on display until 8 January.

This year another novelty. Part of the crib was made by the participants (25 women and a boy) in the first "bread crib" course, organized by the municipal administration (Mayor Toni Faedda) in the room of the old toy library. The architects of the initiative were the Councilor for Traditions Nando Sabiu and the Councilor for Culture Gianluca Pinna. Teachers of the course, as well as souls of the bread crib for almost 20 years, Mariella Pinna and Maria Talia Tidore.

«We cared very much about this work and this course - explains the Councilor for Traditions Nando Sabiu -. From this year we have the certainty that the bread nativity scene of Olmedo will continue for many years and will be even more one of the major and particular attractions of Sardinian Christmas».

Obviously satisfied with the task performed Mariella Pinna. «We resume after two years of the pandemic – he says -. It was a somewhat tiring but interesting journey. Part of the statues had in fact been lost, but together with the pupils we reconstructed everything. A good job came out of it. In fact, all the participants attended the course with great enthusiasm, achieving excellent dexterity. I'm sure that over the years the bread crib of Olmedo will be even more beautiful».
