A simple and banal flu. At least that's what it seemed like initially, on Friday, when Gabriele Pinna , an 18-year-old from Ghilarza, decided to skip judo training in view of the national under-21 championships he was supposed to participate in at the end of March.
As the evening comes, the fever continues to rise, vertiginously, and at 2:30 in the morning, when the situation worsens, the boy is taken to the emergency room of San Martino in Oristano . The doctors immediately understand that there is no time to waste and admit him to intensive care, but there is nothing to be done: at 5:30 in the morning Gabriele Pinna dies , leaving an entire community heartbroken, in shock.
The mayor of Ghilarza, Stefano Licheri, who lost his sixteen-year-old son in a scooter accident six months ago: "Our town is struck by a grave loss. I join in the grief of Gabriele's family, but I will not be able to accompany this boy for the last farewell ."
The parish priest of the town, Father Paolo Contini , immediately wanted to meet Gabriele's parents: "Another tragedy that hits us so quickly. I only brought my embrace to the family, words are not useful to ease the pain now ", he said, recalling that there is also Gabriele's little brother (the two were very close) "who has yet to reach the awareness of what happened".
