Masih Shahid, the 30-year-old Pakistani who attempted to kill his ex-partner Paola Piras, 52, and killed the woman's son, the 19-year-old Mirko Farci, who intervened to defend her from the aggression that took place on 11 May 2021 in the their home in Tortolì.

The judge retired to the council chamber to decide on the request for an abbreviated procedure made by Federico Delitala, the 30-year-old's defense lawyer. Delitala asked for the conditional abbreviation to the psychiatric report on his client, currently detained in the prison of Uta (Cagliari) and absent in court today.

On the other hand, Paola Piras was present in the courtroom, accompanied by her lawyer Paolo Pilia who, together with Marcello Caddori, another lawyer of the civil party, and the prosecutor Giovanna Morra, opposed the abbreviated sentence - which provides for a considerable penalty reduction - given the aggravating circumstances of the premeditation and the commission of the fact on the occasion of mistreatment in the family.

Shahid had entered the woman's house from a downspout of the eaves, then broke down the front door: he had done so at dawn, when mother and son were still sleeping. Taken by surprise, Paola Piras was attacked and seriously injured with 17 stab wounds, the same weapon used shortly after by Shahid himself to kill the boy, who had thrown himself on his mother's body to defend her. A heroic gesture that cost him his life.
