The trial in Sassari is entering its climax . Antonino Becciu, brother of the high prelate Angelo, and Don Corrado Melis, bishop of Ozieri , are among those charged with embezzlement and money laundering. They and four others are accused of diverting 8 per thousand tax funds from 2013 to 2016 to the Spes cooperative, headed by Becciu.

This morning, before the panel chaired by Giancosimo Mura, with Monia Adami and Sara Pelicci as assistants, five witnesses from the prosecution's list, represented by prosecutor Gianni Caria, were heard. Three testimonies were of a technical nature, such as that of the surveyor who was to oversee the Cittadella della Carità, funded by the CEI, which was supposed, among other things, to provide shelter for those in need. The professional reported that Spes had also entrusted him with other construction projects, all inspired by a spirit of solidarity . The statements of the Spes secretary then focused on the functioning of the administrative system, while those of the accounting director of the Diocese of Ozieri focused on project reporting and the spending of the 8 per thousand tax.

The latest hearings involved two women who worked in the parish in Ozieri, who answered questions about the food they had received over the years, including in connection with the bakery. Responding to questions from defense lawyers Ivano Iai and Antonello Patané, one in particular spoke about the financial assistance people in need received from Caritas. "I too benefited from it, like many others," the woman said, "and I was unable to repay the funds."
