Tecnocasic plants shut down, causing waste alarm in Cagliari
The revamping of two furnaces was never completed, and now the third is also stalled. Garbage ends up in the nearly full Villacidro landfill: a race against time to keep bags from being left on the street.Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The Tecnocasic plants are down. And Cagliari is on the brink of a waste emergency.
Cacip's subsidiary manages the waste-to-energy plants at the Macchiareddu plant: all of them are currently shut down. Two are due to a never-ending technological upgrade (Furnace A and B), which should have been completed almost four years ago, and one, Furnace C, which is old and in poor condition, has been shut down again for eleven days due to an issue with the emissions control system, which needs to be replaced.
Cagliari is forced to take its waste to the landfill (in Villacidro), resulting in further costs for residents. But that's not all: the landfill has limited capacity. Either a solution is found soon, or the garbage, which cannot be disposed of, will remain on the streets. A reassurance comes from Palazzo Bacaredda: "It won't happen," a source assures, announcing that the faulty component will be replaced soon. And, in any case, there are other landfills available.
