Sardinia travels towards the end of swine fever restrictions. Today, in Brussels, the committee of member states has again modified the map of the so-called "red areas" , significantly reducing those of the island.

"The areas free from restrictions (in the so-called zero zone) go from 42% to 60% , involving 239 Municipalities", declared the president of the Region, Christian Solinas. «On the other hand, the areas subject to restrictions are reduced. In particular, zone 2 (the game restriction zone) goes from 76 to 56 Municipalities, also thanks to the important contribution of hunters in monitoring operations. Furthermore, a significant remodulation was also decided for zone 3, where the strongest prescriptions are still in force, which thus passes from 21 to 12 Municipalities ».

The total embargo ended at the end of 2022, after an eleven-year ban on the movement of pigs and pig products outside the region: "The important milestone reached last December", added the governor, "didn't push us to let your guard down. In over forty years of fighting swine fever, Sardinia has had to face great sacrifices. Our work as well as the dialogue with the Government and the European Commission will continue until the complete removal of the constraints still present . The new milestone tells us that the road is the right one».
