Vandalism and sabotage targeted the company involved in the redevelopment of Largo Monache Cappuccine in Sassari. Mayor Giuseppe Mascia described it as "a very bad signal to the city," adding: "Some people don't want the city to improve, progress, look ahead, and be returned to the community."
In the last 48 hours, the company has suffered two acts of vandalism and, in recent weeks, a theft. "The vandals damaged the machinery by placing sugar in the oil pan," the mayor reported, "causing financial loss and a potential delay to the work."
According to initial investigations, it appears to have been tampered with with the engines, clearly intended to cause damage and sabotage the work.
"These are shameful acts against a private individual who is doing his job and is employing manpower and resources to ensure the project is completed on schedule," Mayor Giuseppe Mascia denounced. "But what happened is also an act of hostility toward our community," he continued. "Evidently, some people don't like the idea that the historic center can be reborn and that the revitalization of Sassari and the entire Northwest Sardinia can begin here."
"We will move forward with the work," he concludes, "identifying, with the contractor, the administrative structure, and the police, the most suitable solutions to secure the construction site."
