Anyone in Trexenta who had builders in their home or tried to do small maintenance jobs on their own at some point will have found themselves short of materials and will have uttered the following phrase: " I'm going to Signora Giannina for a moment ". Because Gianna Demontis, known to everyone as Signora Giannina, had everything needed for construction in her historic handicrafts shop in Suelli. She was a lifeline, always. Demontis, appreciated for her professional seriousness and for an old-fashioned courtesy and education that were impossible to undermine, passed away at the age of 79. The community of Suelli says goodbye to a strong woman and a successful entrepreneur , even if she didn't like to be called that: "I'm just a worker and I work with workers", she loved to repeat. And it was the truth.
Yesterday afternoon, accompanying her on her last earthly journey from the parish church of San Pietro to the cemetery of Suelli, in addition to the community of the small town of Trexenta, there were hundreds of her loyal customers who had arrived from most of the island .
For over fifty years Giannina Demontis has run the historic company producing and reselling cement products together with her daughters Carminetta, Giorgia and Rita . Operational headquarters in the industrial area of Suelli, with customers from half of Sardinia: in particular Trexenta, Medio Campidano and Sarcidano. A female-run business born from an idea of her husband Zaccheo Vargiu who in 1964 had founded a small business reselling building materials. In 1979 the man died suddenly due to a heart attack. Widowed at just 33 years old with three daughters aged 9, 8 and 6, Mrs Giannina took over the business and made it grow until it became an important point of reference for the world of construction.
