Stormy winds and storm surges: the Epiphany cyclone arrives

Wind, rain and cold arriving on Sardinia , where a cyclone of freezing air is ready to break in and bring bad weather for the Epiphany weekend.
The regional Civil Protection has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions: from 9am tomorrow until midnight on Sunday 7 January the coastal areas of Sardinia will be affected by stormy winds coming from the North-West, particularly intense on the eastern ridges and the coasts of the Gulf of Orosei.
A yellow alert notice has also been issued (ordinary criticality) for hydrogeological risk linked to rain in the Iglesiente, Campidano, Montevecchio Pischinappiu, Tirso and Logudoro , active from midnight until 3pm tomorrow .
As regards the Pirri area, the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Cagliari reports that it is advisable to avoid parking in some streets: via Balilla (from Piazza Italia to via Dandolo) and side streets; via Italy; via Dolianova; Sinnai Street; via Settimo; via Mara; via Donori; via Santorre Di Santarosa; via Confalonieri; via Ampere. Alternatively, the Municipality specifies, "it is recommended to use the stalls at the parking lot of the Terramaini municipal swimming pool, in Via Pisano".
THE FORECASTS – «An Arctic air mass of maritime extraction has arrived in the western Mediterranean – explain the experts from the Decimomannu Air Force weather office – which is triggering a decisive change in the climatic situation . From tomorrow the situation will worsen rapidly with overcast or very cloudy skies and rain in the western, northern and then central sectors with a significant strengthening of the wind". «During the morning – the experts further specify – the wind will change to mistral and will strengthen significantly with gusts between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour and peaks of up to 100 kilometers per hour in the most exposed areas».
A drop in temperatures of four-five degrees is also expected: the maximum temperature will go from 17 degrees to 12-13 degrees, while the minimum temperatures will be around 7-8 degrees with a few degrees less in inland and mountain areas.
Snow also arrives in the mountains on the night between Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th .
Monday 8th more thunderstorms and rain with the possibility of some light hail. Between Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th the phenomena will ease, but the bad weather and cold will soon return.
