The Municipality of Stintino has inaugurated a new Red Bench, adding it to the symbolic places of the community, to remember and raise awareness on the issue of violence against women.
The ceremony took place yesterday, Friday 6 December, between the municipal library, the old port and the Tonnara Museum, with a significant participation of citizens, institutions and local associations.
A particularly touching moment was the positioning of the red shoes, placed in the municipal library, on the red bench in the old port and on the new red bench inaugurated in front of the Tonnara Museum .
The red shoes are a universal symbol of the fight against gender violence: they represent the broken lives of many women victims of abuse, leaving a powerful visual mark to keep attention high on this social drama .
The mayor of Stintino, Rita Limbania Vallebella , opened the ceremony with a passionate speech, reiterating the importance of continuing to raise awareness among communities, especially the younger ones, so that episodes of violence are never ignored.
This was followed by greetings from the president of the city council, Agostino Schiaffino, and the councilor for Culture, Tourism and Social Services, Marta Diana, who underlined how visual symbols, such as benches and red shoes, are fundamental to stimulate collective and concrete reflection .
The debate at the Museo della Tonnara saw the participation of experts and institutional figures, including Maria Cristina Benenati, former president of Fidapa - Porto Torres section, who addressed the issue of prevention and support for victims. Maria Lucia Stacca, head of the Social Sector, and Grazia Simula, social worker of the Municipality, described the daily work carried out to help women in difficulty, while Mara Maoddi and Anna Soranna highlighted the role of culture and education in the fight against gender violence.
The readings by the third year middle school students from the schools of Stintino gave further depth to the event, demonstrating the sensitivity of the new generations towards such an important theme .
Mayor Rita Vallebella said: "As a community, we have the duty to educate, support and protect, involving the new generations and raising awareness among even the youngest, so that respect and equality are the pillars of our daily lives . The Municipality of Stintino will continue to work to promote a culture based on the dignity and value of each individual. This red bench is a symbol of our commitment , today and for the future".
