On October 18th, Cagliari hosts the regional Paralympic table football championships. Play begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Athon gym on Via De Gioannis, with both singles and doubles matches.
An event with great social value that combines sport and inclusion.
Lower tables will be used, suitable for those with physical disabilities recognized by the federation. The championships are held under the auspices of the Italian Paralympic Table Football Federation (FIPCB). The matches are refereed by federal professionals, ready to intervene in the event of a dispute.
"The regional table football championship is also open to athletes with intellectual and relational disabilities, although currently no team in Sardinia has yet affiliated for this segment of the sport. The federation and the Italian Paralympic Committee are working to fully expand this discipline, which brings significant benefits," explains Nicola Marcello of the Italian Paralympic Committee. "It's an inclusive sport that helps athletes improve their physical and mental performance over the long term, improving their interactions in terms of personal autonomy and self-esteem—in short, the true motivation for practicing a sport. It makes no distinction between male and female sections, and is, in this sense, even more inclusive."
The competing athletes come mostly from Ferrini Cagliari, which recently competed in the Italian team championships with an excellent quarterfinal finish, and the newly formed Asd Amatori Rugby Capoterra, which in addition to wheelchair rugby has also introduced Paralympic table football and athletics.
