Bathing is prohibited in the sea along the coast of Sorso, in the area called “La Pigliastra”.
The ordinance was signed by Deputy Mayor Federico Basciu, following the note from Arpas - Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Sardinia, after sampling revealed that the limits of the microbiological parameters of the bathing water in the affected area were exceeded, namely the presence of Escherichia coli, in some cases exceeding 2000 over the limit value of 500.
The causes would be attributable to the spills into the sea from the Rio Pedrugnanu, a collection site for the wastewater from the Sorso-Sennori consortium purifier . The abnormal parameters would seem to be linked to the heavy rains that on August 19 would have dragged the debris to various points of the sea.
The stretch forbidden to swimmers is approximately 2,278 meters long, over two kilometers of off-limits beaches, at the height of Li Nibari, settimo pettine, Porchile, Marritza and Punta Tramontana, until normal conditions are restored. For the entire duration of the ban, the municipal administration has arranged for signs to be put up to correctly inform citizens and swimmers regarding the impossibility of using the body of water at the public access points to the sea and the sampling point.
