The driver who hit the 23-year-old Tunisian, Oussama Mahjoub, along state road 200 , in the Marritza area of Sorso, was arrested this morning on charges of manslaughter.

The measure against a 43-year-old man from Valledoria was ordered by Deputy Prosecutor Paolo Piras. The accident occurred yesterday evening, Tuesday, January 20, around 10:00 PM, but only an hour later the driver reported to the Valledoria Carabinieri station . The victim was returning to the community where he lived with other non-EU citizens, after getting off the bus arriving from Sassari. He was walking along the three-kilometer stretch of road separating him from the facility when he was struck and thrown into a ditch following the impact.

The driver told the police that he thought he had hit a wild boar, but once he stopped he found nothing.

Only after 11:00 PM did the Carabinieri of the Porto Torres company, along with their colleagues from the Sorso station, determine that the driver was a single person: the young Tunisian man, now deceased. The driver, under house arrest, will appear before the preliminary investigations judge tomorrow.
