The village grandmother, Aunt Maurizia Congiu, passed away today in Sorradile. She would have turned 107 on August 21st, making her the oldest person over a hundred years old in the province of Oristano. Maurizia Congiu was the pride of the small village in Barigadu. Her life was a living example of strength and resilience: the fourth of six children, who lost her father at just 15, Maurizia Congiu began working first in Abbasanta and later in Genoa.

She also worked for Minister Renato Altissimo. After her marriage, she returned to her hometown in the Alto Oristano area. Widowed since 2013 and childless, Aunt Maurizia was constantly surrounded by the love of her family and the loving care of her caregivers, who, with dedication, allowed her to remain in her home. She was lovingly cared for until her last moments.

"We are deeply saddened, and the entire municipal administration extends its heartfelt condolences to the family. Having a young lady of that age was the pride of the town, now the oldest in the entire province of Oristano," says Mayor Giampaolo Loi. "I had time to celebrate two birthdays with her. She came from a long-lived family; her sister, Rosa Congiu, also lived to be 104."
