He would have failed to communicate to Sfirs, the Financial Company of the Sardinia Region of which he has been president for almost five years, his retirement from 1 January 2021, thus continuing to receive the related emoluments.
According to the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors, this amounts to something more than 200 thousand euros which Tonino Chironi would no longer have been able to receive, given that it is an in-house company of the Region and that there is a law in force which would expressly prohibit pensioners from receiving also the public salary.
In recent months, the accounting magistrates led by the regional prosecutor, Bruno Tridico, began checking the salaries collected by the president, then notifying him of an invitation to deduct, so that he could provide an initial justification for the disputes. Not satisfied with the answers, the deputy prosecutor Fabiana Olla, owner of the file, launched the actual act of accusation against Chironi who, in the coming months, will be called to defend himself before the jurisdictional section of the Court of Auditors of Sardinia, presided over by judge Donata Cabras. The hearing could already be scheduled for the end of the year.
Born in Orani 71 years ago, the president of Sfirs has been a freelancer with a studio in Cagliari for over 40 years. He was a bankruptcy trustee at the Court of Cagliari, mayor and auditor in public and private entities and companies, tax defender in disputes between taxpayers and tax authorities in defense of the consumer. An expert consultant in financial, tax, commercial and corporate law matters, he has also been manager of numerous public and private companies. In his case, the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors disputes the violation of a rule indicated by Legislative Decree 95/2012 which regulates the urgent provisions for the review of public spending: it is forbidden to confer positions on retired public or private workers in government bodies (or administrations and bodies and companies controlled by them), unless these are free of charge positions.
