Selargius mayor offers Roma housing funds: "The funds are earmarked by the Region."
Gigi Concu: "We need clarity: this way we can clean up the area on Highway 387. A generous €8,500 per family? Yes, but we can't use it for anything else."Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The funds earmarked for the Roma "are regional and restricted. They're not money the Selargini pay in taxes." And they must be used to find decent housing for the families in the Pitz'e Pranu camp "and clean up that ecological bomb."
The mayor of Selargius, Gigi Concu, intervenes to clarify the controversy sparked by the provision that allocates 8,500 euros to each family to find alternative housing in the area along the State Road 387 , transformed into a landfill site and the scene of continuous fires.
"For years, we've been trying to clear the Pitz'e Pranu camp, to clean up the area and eliminate the ecological bomb whose consequences are having a severe impact on the entire region," explains the mayor, "and we're also well aware of the difficulties in finding new homes for the sixteen families currently living in the camp, some of whom are children."
Thanks to regional funds, which are restricted and "therefore unusable for other purposes," Concu emphasizes, "it was decided to provide extraordinary contributions to the Roma people to find permanent and dignified accommodation and thus be able to clear the camp, putting an end to all the problems it poses, including for the Selargini who live in the area, and to be able to restore the land to its original purpose."
The mayor reiterates: " These are restricted and regional funds, so no: they are not the money the Selargini pay with taxes, as some have written. We're talking about €8,500 per household: it's undoubtedly a lot and would help many people in need, but, I repeat: since they are regional and restricted funds, they cannot be used for other purposes."
