The first congratulations from the Brothers of Italy party, expressed by Marco Marsilio, President of the Abruzzo Region, for the appointment of Thomas Schael as Director General of the Sardinian Department of Health, chosen by Sardinian President Alessandra Todde.

A message from our Abruzzese colleague that reads like a pebble in the sand being hurled from the right against the Five Star Movement and the Democratic Party, who had harshly criticized Schael at Marsilio's.

"I learned of the appointment. I extend my congratulations and sincere best wishes for his future endeavors. After years of collaboration in Abruzzo, we still have a mutual respect and a personal relationship that I'm pleased to remember. His managerial qualities and expertise are recognized across the board: that speaks for itself," explains Marsilio.

But the Abruzzo president continues: "I can't help but note with a hint of irony how the specious, and often over-the-top, personal and professional controversy fueled in Abruzzo by the Five Star Movement and the Democratic Party is now belied by the facts. If Schael were indeed, as has been claimed too often, a 'problem,'" Marsilio stings, "it's amusing to point out that a center-left president, a member of the Five Star Movement, chose him to solve her region's many problems: sometimes reality speaks louder than any narrative."

"I am convinced," Marsilio concludes, "that President Todde, who retains responsibility for healthcare, has made an excellent choice in entrusting him with a delicate role in a region with demographic challenges similar, if not worse, than Abruzzo. And this appointment will also allow for continued institutional discussions at the technical tables of the Conference of the Regions, including those on the distribution of the National Health Fund, where we are confident that the common battle we are waging together with the Sardinia region and many others will be strengthened by Schael in this new position."
