Work has finally begun on the restyling of via Torre Tonda , one of the most characteristic areas of Sassari. The name is due to the fact that it incorporates the only medieval tower in the city, with a circular plan. An initial loan of one million euros was allocated in 1999 (according to an urban redevelopment agreement with the Ministry of Public Works and the Sardinia Region) but then everything was blocked due to a dispute between the local authority and the contracting company. The situation was resolved in 2019. The works will begin next Monday and will be coordinated by the Mobility Infrastructure sector of the Municipality of Sassari.

Estimated duration , 3 months , with the hope that the times will be respected since the street faces very busy places, and not only due to the proximity of the University of Sassari. The redevelopment work of the pedestrian area will cost one million euros . The extraordinary maintenance interventions necessary to restore the functional and safety conditions of the pedestrian path in Via Torre Tonda will be carried out, existing differences in level and architectural barriers will be eliminated and the flooring will be completely redone on a single level, in stone of suitable color and shape. to the context.

The network of water underground services and the rainwater collection system will then be completed, the lighting system will be improved, with one more efficient and more suitable for the urban context of reference. New elements of furniture and urban equipment are also envisaged, in particular bollards, seats, waste bins, of materials and types suitable for the context. During the works, pedestrian transit will be guaranteed, albeit with possible temporary inconveniences; Safe paths and walkways will be created to guarantee access to homes and commercial establishments.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the works should last approximately 3 months , in order to return to the citizens and public utilities an area considered to be of fundamental importance for the city life of the capital, and also revitalize the associated spatial and socio-economic structures. The works are carried out by the company Geom Giuseppe Angius construction srl, parent company of the RTI group Geom Giuseppe Angius construction and more within the framework agreement for road maintenance. In conjunction with this intervention, the Abbanoa company will also be operational in some delimited areas of Via Torre Tonda which, according to the communicated timetable, will have to carry out activities on the water network for three weeks starting from 4 March. The Mobility Infrastructure sector recommends that pedestrians pay the utmost attention and respect the construction site signs and the instructions provided by the workers for safety throughout the duration of the works.
