Increase in cremations and rationalization of spaces in the Sassari cemetery. These are two of the elements, illustrated this morning in the IV Commission by the Councilor for Public Works Salvatore Sanna, which concern the management of the structure entrusted to "Servizi Cimiteriali Sassari".

"An overall investment," says Sanna, supported by the director for the execution of the contract, the surveyor Matteo Fraternale, "by the company of 7 and a half million euros over the 25 years of the assignment, with interventions already completed for over 3 million."

Works relating in particular to the Crematorium Temple and the parking lot in front, costing 1 million 893 thousand euros, to the building that houses the offices, to the mortuary and to the external works, for a total amount of over 785 thousand euros, «while another 284 thousand euros are services to adapt and secure via Siotto Pintor, greatly improving traffic flow around the cemetery and facilitating the use of the six different entrances, some of which have remained unused for a long time».

Meanwhile, the number of cremations has increased from 636 in 2019 to 1,923 in 2024. "The company pays 11% of the royalties to the Municipality, a figure that in the past year has brought in over 104 thousand euros". It is instead 237 thousand and 500 euros per year, but we must consider the increases in ISTAT, the contribution that the municipal administration gives to the Cemetery Services.

«It should not be forgotten that the reference company, Altair of Bologna, is the same one that manages the cremations of Cagliari and Olbia, thus ensuring continuity of service even when one of these should close for maintenance or other needs».

In the future, the creation of an area for the multi-ethnic and multi-religious cemetery is planned, as well as the construction of a space for the construction site of the operators, who are 20 in total. "But above all, during 2025 we intend to proceed with the identification of expired concessions, exhumations and reassignments in favor of the new deceased", concludes the councilor, "avoiding the continuous consumption of land to create new cemetery areas while the existing ones are becoming desertified".
