«The Director sent by the Dap to the Sassari prison has finished his mission period and returns to the Peninsula. The penitentiary is thus again without a guide. A surreal and shameful situation”.

The complaint comes from the Uilpa Penitentiary Police union, through the voice of the secretary Michele Cireddu.

"The Director, active in the Neapolitan prison of Poggioreale, and sent for a few days of the week to manage the Sassari Institute, has completed his mandate", reads a note. «So we are back to the initial situation, with the Institute of Sassari, identified for the management of almost 100 prisoners belonging to the 41 bis circuit and for the management of high security and medium security prisoners, literally "forgotten" by the Department ».

«It is a situation – thunders Cireddu – increasingly scandalous . If finally, at least for a few months, a Commander has been identified who, right from the start, is showing that he wants to contribute to improving the organization of work, we have to deal with the umpteenth villainy of an Administration inadequate to manage Sardinia penitentiary . We really wonder who should we deal with to obtain at least the most basic rights for personnel or to improve the organization of the Institute if our direct interlocutor, after many years, does not exist!?».

Again, underlines the union, "this continuous and frequent change at the top is only creating confusion and destabilizing the staff who have to navigate between the service orders that govern the work processes that change often, precisely on the basis of the Directors

which follow each other".

«An institution of this complexity - continues Cireddu -, with the typology of prisoners present, should be recognized as a place of higher assignments and in this way we are convinced that, faced with the attractive prospect of career advancement that such recognition would determine, the Directors and the Commanders would spring up like mushrooms, but even in this the administration certainly does not demonstrate far-sighted management».

«We also have another certainty: in the midst of this bleak picture, consisting of the lack of personnel in the various roles, 5 Inspectors present out of the 35 expected, 9 Superintendents present out of the 45 expected, 280 Agents and Assistants present out of the 315 expected, despite the feeling of abandonment by the Administration is increasingly tangible, the staff of the Penitentiary Police still demonstrates that they have the strength to guarantee legality and demonstrate that they know how to operate with extreme

professionalism and sense of duty, skills inversely proportional to those demonstrated up to now by the departmental heads», concludes Cireddu.
