Presented today in Sassari, in the conference room of the Fondazione di Sardegna, Opolis, the Observatory on Security Policies and Crime Prevention.
Promoted by Acli Sardegna, the project will use science to analyze real or perceived dangers in a timely manner.
"There is a clear disconnect - says Marco Calaresu, university professor in Sassari and Scientific Director of Opolis - between these two elements. Sardinia is among the safest regions in Italy but its inhabitants feel increasingly insecure ."
In relation to Sassari, its mayor Giuseppe Mascia clarifies: «The perception of insecurity should not be underestimated. A place perceived, rightly or wrongly, as unsafe, is not frequented and is destined to be abandoned ». The culture of data, available to all, will be the first point of the Observatory. «We want to provide - adds Giuseppe Fresu, vice president of Acli Sardegna - political decision makers with tools based on scientific evidence to develop more effective strategies ». Because, he adds, «security policies must not come from above but arise from below».
However, Opolis will have a broad view that will also include the issues of, for example, gambling and integration. The first results are expected in six months thanks to the work of Iares, the institute that does sample analyses for Acli and is directed by Vania Statzu. Also present at the event was the prefect of Sassari Grazia La Fauci and speakers included Daniela Falconi, President of Anci Sardegna, Silvio Lai, deputy of the Italian Republic, Moris Triventi, professor of Sociology at the University of Milan, Giacomo Spissu, President of the Fondazione di Sardegna.
