Stop "firecrackers", pyrotechnics and firecrackers. And not just at Christmas and New Year's, but all year round. The municipal administration of Sassari reminds that a regulation has been in force - not since today - that prohibits 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, the use of products that create noises that could frighten people with disabilities and animals.

" A decision taken to protect the most vulnerable : children who could cause serious, even permanent, damage to themselves and others by using firecrackers, and all people with pathologies and disabilities for whom deafening noises can cause irreparable health trauma in some cases. A ban that is also a protection for animals, which often, frightened by the noise, flee, and in some cases cause accidents", the explanation provided by the Municipality.

"It is forbidden throughout the Municipality of Sassari to set off firecrackers, bangs, fireworks and pyrotechnic articles in general, with the exception of those with a negligible noise level or with an exclusive light effect , unless expressly authorised by the public safety authority and the municipal administration. In cases authorised by the public safety authority and the municipal administration, owners of pets are always required to monitor and take action to ensure that the discomfort caused by the explosions does not cause the animals to escape, exposing them to the risk of being lost and/or run over. The setting off of firecrackers, bangs, fireworks and the like may constitute mistreatment and harmful behaviour towards animals and therefore entails liability for the offenders."

Furthermore, according to the waste management regulation, throwing plastic confetti is also always prohibited . This is because, the Municipality continues, "it is a non-biodegradable material that remains on the ground and in the water, and resists any type of collection, even if carried out with precision. Consider that the sparkling pieces of plastic material are deposited in the streets, on the land, in the sewer pipes, with the wind they scatter everywhere and end up in the sea with serious consequences for the natural ecosystem".
