Eleven rigged bikes were discovered in the city and seized by local police, who also fined the riders under the Portici Crispo.
The checks were carried out following several accidents caused by drivers not respecting the highway code and by rigged vehicles .
This morning in Piazzale Segni, municipal police officers demonstrated how the seized bicycles far exceeded the legal speed limit, reaching speeds of up to 63 km/h.
This was thanks to the engine connected by a wire to the handlebars and the potentiometer/accelerator which allowed semicircular muscle-powered bicycles to become motorcycles.
Furthermore, the couriers had neither licenses nor helmets, and the vehicles were uninsured. The fine for the modifications was €4,000 and €3,000 for speed-related fines, fines that, as local police commander Gianni Serra reported, "are unlikely to be paid by the offenders."
Mostly Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, and Italians offered their services. The Locale's operation will continue with the scooters, which drivers often ride without helmets, as required by law.
