A year of waiting, phantom aid and silence from the Region : the Sardinian shepherds can't take it anymore. For this reason the movement Pastori Senza Bandiera calls mayors and administrators to gather in a large assembly - Saturday 15 March in Tramatza - determined to put politics before its responsibilities.
While discontent is mounting in the countryside, where farms are increasingly in difficulty between promised and never-paid bonuses, ignored emergencies and deadlines that don't wait. "For a year we have been asking for a meeting with the president of the Region, Alessandra Todde, but no one has ever answered us," denounces Fabio Pisu, spokesman for the movement. Now the shepherds don't want to wait any longer and are ready to take action.
At the heart of the protest is "the failure of the aid system," the movement says, "starting with the 2024 CAP payments, which have so far benefited only 7,000 companies out of 27,000, while the others are waiting or have received paltry amounts. There is no sign of the resources for the drought, much heralded: the 5 million euros intended for the 4,700 companies that have applied have never been paid out."
Yet, in the eyes of public opinion, "The Region continues to boast of millionaire aid," Pisu remarks. The concept is reiterated by Gianuario Falchi: "The reality is very different. Our companies are exhausted and the desperation is tangible."
For the shepherds, the promises of discontinuity with respect to the previous Council have turned out to be an illusion. "Not only has the pace not changed, but it has even worsened," the movement's leaders denounce. In the meantime, the company accounts do not wait: the deadlines arrive on time, the aid does not.
Now it is up to politics to provide answers and the assembly will be the moment of truth: "Will the Region continue to pretend nothing is happening or will someone have the courage to face reality?", they ask.
