"The Santa Teresa-Bonifacio route is a strategic connection for Sardinia and Corsica, but it suffers from a structural fragility linked to the limited availability of ferries compatible with the regulations currently in force for international connections . We have proposed a concrete regulatory change that would allow us to overcome this constraint and guarantee a more stable and efficient service". This was reiterated by the regional councillor for Transport, Barbara Manca , who together with the head of cabinet Francesco Sechi and the delegate for international relations of the Presidency, Franciscu Sedda, participated yesterday in Nice in the second meeting of the Italy-France Border Cooperation Committee "Quirinale Treaty" , bringing to the attention of the institutional representatives a concrete proposal to overcome the fragility of the maritime connection between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio.

A service that the Region considers "essential for the mobility of citizens and businesses, which for months has suffered structural criticalities due to the lack of ships suitable for operating on the route".

During the summit - during which Manca met with all the main political figures present, including the Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Transport of the French Republic, Jean-Noël Barrot and Patrice Vergriete - the councilor therefore advanced the request for a regulatory change that would allow the connection to be considered as a national route . This change in classification would allow for the expansion of the availability of certified ships without reducing current safety standards or modifying the protocols for controlling international flows of passengers and goods.

"Maximum sharing of intent", reports a note from the Region, was found with the representatives of the regional institutions of Corsica present in Nice, the president of the Assembly of Corsica, Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis, and the executive councilor of Corsica, Lauda Guidicelli-Sbraggia . "The prospects of cooperation between the two islands in the transport sector and the need for structural solutions to ensure a stable and efficient maritime connection were discussed with them. We trust that this proposal can find the necessary support at national and international level to resolve an issue that affects the daily life of many citizens and the economic activities of the two islands. We will continue to work so that the connection between Sardinia and Corsica can finally be guaranteed with regularity and reliability", concluded Councilor Manca.

The Sardinia Region – concludes the note from the Todde Council – «will continue the discussion with the Italian and French authorities to reach a structural solution that ensures a stable maritime service between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio, an essential element for territorial continuity and for the development of relations between the two regions».
