Fewer stops for the carriage. How many there will be is yet to be determined. Fewer people next to the statue when, during the procession to the places of martyrdom, it is carried out of the case. No more selfie-souvenirs with the Saint when he is outside the case. Only specialized (and authorized) personnel in the maneuvers of moving the statue, but above all the prohibition (for everyone) of touching the statue.
The disciplinary
The day after the end of the 369th edition of the Feast of Sant'Efisio, the one that brought the Martyr back to his little church in Stampace, Cagliari, with the index finger of his right hand broken in the accident at Villa San Pietro while the statue was being brought back inside the case, the Superintendency and the Arciconfraternita di Sant'Efisio are preparing to write new rules to be adopted during the days of the procession (and not only). Rules that will serve to guarantee, on the one hand, the need to protect and preserve a valuable "piece" of Sardinian history and culture (the statue dates back to the mid-17th century), and on the other, that of the worship of the faithful. "There are some things to fix," explains Andrea Loi, president of the Arciconfraternita. "In compliance with our mission, which is the protection and dissemination to future generations of the history and worship of Sant'Efisio, we will work alongside the Superintendency," he adds.
