The news shocked everyone: his family, an entire town, Settimo San Pietro, his employees, whom he treated like sons. Sandro Cocco, 65, died at dawn today at the Sassari Burns Center, where he had arrived yesterday in desperate condition with deep wounds to his face, leg, and hand.
An entrepreneur known throughout Sardinia for his work with the company he founded, Euroasfalti, which operates in the waterproofing sector , died after yesterday morning's serious accident at work . Desperate attempts by medical personnel to save his life were unsuccessful.
Cocco was in Villasimius to put the finishing touches to the waterproofing of a balcony, when he probably felt ill and was unable to control the blowtorch and was hit by a flame that caused injuries that later proved fatal .
Sandro Cocco has worked in this sector for 50 years, starting when he was a boy. Then, with hard work, skill, and honesty, he opened his own company, which for years has operated throughout the island: in tourist villages in the north and south, in schools, and in churches. He had been retired for four years but continued to supervise construction sites , focusing especially on safety, a concern for him. One of his sons, Alessandro, a former youth footballer for Cagliari and Sinnai, is now the company's general manager. Another, Stefano, is the technical manager .
Enormous mourning for the tragic death, which has shocked the entire country.
