The "Save a child, build the future" project starts from San Giovanni Suergiu, a service action carried out by the Sulcis section of Fidapa BPW Italy with which we want to safeguard the health of children through the training of school staff on disobstructive maneuvers of the airways, gestures capable of saving the life of the little ones when in a completely involuntary way they ingest or inhale foreign bodies that prevent partial or total breathing.

The Sulcis club will donate a free training course dedicated to these life-saving practices to the teachers and ATA staff of the "G. Marconi" Comprehensive Institute of San Giovanni Suergiu, including the cycles of Infancy, Primary and Secondary.

"The purpose - explains Eloise Carboni, member of Fidapa and speaker of the project - is to allow more school staff, including teachers and collaborators, to be adequately trained and ready to intervene in case of need, also by virtue of the fact that it is operational the canteen service. We remember in fact - continues the lawyer Carboni who is also a municipal councilor - that suffocation from a foreign body represents a significant public health problem ".

"It is one of the main causes of death in children under the age of 3 - points out Maria Chiara Basciu, founder and past president of Fidapa, dentist and member of the Regional Equal Opportunities Commission - but the rate of accidents remains high up to 14 It is estimated that in Europe, every year, 500 children die of suffocation. In Italy - continues the doctor from Sulcis - a stable trend has been observed in the last 10 years, with about a thousand hospitalizations a year and 50 deaths. Because for 50 children who lose their lives - concludes Dr. Basciu - there are thousands who do not die, but due to the inhalation of a foreign body they have to undergo hospitalization or invasive medical procedures ".

For Fidapa del Sulcis, "the indispensable immediacy of intervention required in such cases must necessarily be reflected in the preparation of those who are committed to looking after children, especially at an early age, during the administration of food and drinks. It is therefore indisputable that this need becomes operational in the various types of contexts and places where teachers and educators must be able to manage a situation as complex as the symptom of suffocation ".

Recently presented in Cagliari by Maria Chiara Basciu and Eloise Carboni, in the presence of the Archbishop of Cagliari Mons.Giuseppe Baturi, who showed great appreciation for the meritorious voluntary work carried out by Fidapa sulcitana, the course will be held by the Training Institute Insignia, accredited by the Region of Sardinia, and scheduled, based on the working needs of the staff involved, in extra-school hours so that membership is as broad as possible.

A first step so that this important mission can reach all schools in the area and within the next year throughout the island.
