In Carbonia the magic of the Sardinian tradition of the night of San Giovanni has been relived in the shadow of the ancient pre-Nuragic tombs and a stone's throw from the remains of the peasant village of two centuries ago: the climax with the celebratory fires to burn the old herbs.

Last night the Cannas di Sotto archaeological park hosted an event dedicated to the Night of San Giovanni, a night considered magical in the Sardinian tradition, full of symbolism and rituals.

After a thematic visit focused on Neolithic rituals, the Arca di Noè association and the artist Anna Carla Casu guided the visitors to discover the traditional rites also typical of the ancient heart of Sulcis: the fires, which were lit to light up the night and to pulverize the herbs of the past year, the preparation of San Giovanni water with aromatic and medicinal herbs; the consolidation of friendships between the compoari and the comari. All suggestive and evocative is the reading of ancient passages that describe these ancient traditions and the importance they had for the ancestors.

The event is organized by the Sardinia Cultural System Consortium, manager of the Carbonia museum circuit.
