Return to the past to look forward to the future. It is the synthesis of the architectural projection at the port of Arbatax. The barriers on the eastern quay are down to allow walking, both on foot and by bicycle with the creation of a cycle path, and eliminate, once and for all, the lack of parking in the seaside village which, especially in summer, becomes a handicap for tourist activities. The project was sanctioned between the Port System Authority of the Sea of Sardinia, the Municipality of Tortolì and the Coast Guard at the end of a services conference held in Cagliari.

The turning point

All this will happen as soon as the mooring point where, on August 4th, the Tirrenia ferry damaged the briccole becomes usable again. «Commercial traffic will soon move back to the mooring tooth and thus - announces Massimo Deiana, 61 years old, president of the Authority - we will free the eastern quay. This will favor recreational tourist-recreational activity."

But the benefits will not just be logistical. «The area will be converted into a beautiful promenade and a cycle path and in addition the endemic parking problem will be solved which, during the holiday season, creates inconvenience for those who book excursions».

Mayor

Marcello Ladu (45), mayor of Tortolì, is satisfied with the result achieved which redevelops both the village and the airport, where the lighting enhancement works will soon begin with an estimated cost of 2.8 million euros. «Breaking down the barriers on the eastern pier - says Ladu - was an objective that we set ourselves during the election campaign and now, thanks also to the synergy with the competent authorities, we will be able to restore to Arbatax the historic promenade that has been missing for a long time. We are only at the beginning of a profound redevelopment of the port on which we place great expectations for the development of the territory."
