Those who lived at the Marina had the right to pay 40 euros a month. From mid-May the price will rise to 105. An explanation and a controversy arrive on the case of the elimination of the rate for residents of the historic center of Cagliari in the car park of the Piazza Matteotti station.

The first is provided by the Ferrovie dello Stato, which manages the area through FsPark: «In May 2021, with the resumption of the pandemic, FS Park (formerly Metropark) made itself available to guarantee, with a specific communication to the Municipality of Cagliari , season tickets at a discounted rate for residents of the historic center (Marina area)", we read in a note, "specifying that the rate would be equated to the amount foreseen for rail season ticket holders in order to avoid unequal treatment between categories" . In May 2022, all other tariffs had been adjusted, while "the amount reserved for residents has never been adjusted", it is underlined.
Once the pandemic is over, "and in line with the management policies applied, FsPark communicates that the new tariff plan, in force from 15 May 2024, is aligned with the current value of the market tariffs for parking spaces". The company says it is willing to "evaluate the possibility of signing a specific agreement with the Municipality of Cagliari".

And it is from Alessandra Zedda, candidate to lead the Municipality as mayor, that a critical stance comes: «It is unacceptable that citizens should suffer such an unjustified and sudden increase», she declares, «this decision further aggravates the already difficult problem of mobility and parking in our city . Citizens cannot be left alone when faced with choices that have such an impact on their pockets and their daily habits."

For this reason, the candidate for mayor undertakes, in the event of election, " to request an immediate discussion with the State Railways to restore resident tariffs to the level previously applied. But the consultation must also extend to a project for the revitalization of the railway hub, which includes the opening of services and commercial establishments, in order to make the station not only a transit point, but a real center of aggregation and services for citizens and travellers."
