A situation that repeats itself, seemingly without an immediate solution: when it pours with rain, Mario Giordano's house in Sestu, in the central Via Cagliari, floods.
Water fills the ground floor, but also the bathroom, because it even comes out of the toilet.
Giordano, namesake of the famous television journalist, documented his situation as a reporter, publishing a widely viewed video on the Facebook group dedicated to Sestu.
The water disposal situation is under accusation. "When it rains, the manholes pop and the sewer remains blocked," he explains. Abbanoa specifies that the sewer system "has no problem, the critical issues are linked to the fact that rainwater ends up in the sewer system, and is not discharged into the rainwater drainage system, which is the responsibility of the Municipalities. This must be separated from the sewer system, dedicated exclusively to the sewage discharged by users."
Rainwater and sewer water, in the same pipes. A structural deficiency, a situation, it must be said, widespread in many centers, where several decades ago they built without taking all the precautions, and also imagining a much smaller user.
Many then point the finger at the many clogged drains in the city, often with waste, flyers and various pieces of paper, worsening the situation.
The Municipality is keeping an eye on the problem: "We are carrying out a project that includes the sizing of the rainwater network in the areas at greatest risk of flooding. Surveys are underway", explains Emanuele Meloni, councilor for Urban Hygiene and Public Works.
