"Too many abandoned barriers": Monserrato residents protest
Born as safety devices, today they are an obstacle on roads and sidewalks. Citizens await their removalPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
In various streets of Monserratina there are barriers abandoned for some time above the sidewalks. Some are even damaged because they fell to the ground after days of strong winds. Several residents complain about what they call a situation of "degradation" due to the abandonment of the barriers, which also constitute an architectural barrier since in some cases they are an obstacle to the easy passage of people with mobility problems. Among those reported by residents, those in Via Seneca, a stone's throw from the pharmacy, stand out. "They've been there for months and months," says Manola Sechi, a resident of the nearby Via San Valeriano, "one overturned, completely obstructing the passage on the sidewalk, then it was placed against the wall, but they're still there. They're not only aesthetically ugly, they also represent an inconvenience for us pedestrians who have to get off the sidewalk and onto the road to get around the obstacle of these barriers. I don't understand how long it will take to remove them, given that they're now damaged."
In via Deroma the sidewalk located right on the corner with via Riu Mortu is made impassable by the presence of a barrier. "You can't even get on it and you have to turn the corner walking on the road because of this obstacle, there's the risk of being hit by a car", says an indignant Mariano Salis, a resident of via Riu Mortu who, due to an accident, is temporarily moving around on crutches: "Barriers like these, and I find many around Monserrato, for us who have mobility difficulties represent a gigantic architectural barrier, however it seems that they don't even think about removing them, given that there is no work in progress, in fact, they finished a long time ago". In piazza Gennargentu the situation is no better. Here there are four barriers leaning against the wall.
The residents of the area say they are furious because they have been there for more than a few months. "At least for a year," say two of them, Ilaria Marceddu and Salvatore Perria, "and, even worse, they are positioned in a stretch where there are also traffic poles and the sidewalk itself is in precarious conditions. We see many elderly people in difficulty when they find themselves faced with these obstacles." Another four are on the sidewalk of Via Giulio Cesare, just ahead of the copy shop, these also restrict the passage to pedestrians and, also for some time, there is one that delimits an old door in Via del Redentore, on the corner with Via Claudiano. Barriers also in Via Argentina and in the large events area.
