The case against several local police officers, accused by a man they arrested of attacking him despite him not resisting, was dismissed today in Sassari court by investigating judge Gian Paolo Piana. The incident dates back to 2024, when municipal police officers intervened to stop a foreign man who had just beaten his wife.

They had stopped him on Via Torre Tonda, and a fight ensued. The man who had opposed the dismissal of the case was allegedly beaten by the officers, even using truncheons, which he claimed were illegal, even though he had surrendered.

This version was contradicted by both the police and the prosecutor, who maintained that force had to be used because the African man continued to resist, kicking and attacking the officers, and even injuring one of them. Furthermore, the behavior continued in the car, during the transfer to the station, when the man headbutted the window, damaging it and injuring himself.

As noted by the prosecutor, the arrested man was in a state of severe agitation and altered behavior due to alcohol consumption. The preliminary investigations judge dismissed the case, rejecting the defense's request, represented by attorney Giuseppe Onorato, to initiate additional investigations and acquire additional video footage beyond those already filed. The judge concluded that the use of force was necessitated by the suspect's violent behavior. Attorney Giuseppe Scarpa represented the local police officers.
