Pierpaolo Sau, mayor of Tonara , had made a joke (or so he considered it) in 2010. He re-proposed it yesterday under a post on Facebook by Desulo's former colleague, Gigi Littarru, who had just written a very serious reflection, on the depopulation of inland areas. And it was engulfed in a storm of controversy.
The reactions, especially from women, were outraged, to the minimum. Patrizia Cadau, former city councilor in Oristano speaks of "vulgar and drooling irony of the sexist on duty". Luana Farina relaunches: «But not even a bit of birgonza (shame, ed)? In addition to treating women as mares, he self-degrades to a stud animal». Journalist Carla Mura underlines: «Here it's not even about feminism against patriarchy. The attacks grew as the hours passed. Sau deleted his "unhappy" speech from social media. But by now the omelette was done.
Today also the intervention of the Cagliari parliamentarian of the Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, Francesca Ghirra: «A sleazy and sexist joke. An unworthy and unacceptable attitude on the part of anyone, but even more so on those who hold institutional positions», he adds, «shame on yourself and leave the government of the municipality to someone or someone who has greater respect for women and for the entire community of Tonara» .
For the record, Littarru's post that addressed an important issue was as follows: «I'm a curious type, I always like to see everything up close and if that's not enough I always look for first-hand news. Today I started rummaging through emails and folders from previous years. I noticed that in 2010 Desulo had two kindergarten complexes and the total number of children who attended it amounted to 66. Without families, without children and without schools we are destined to extinction».
