A vacation that turned into a nightmare, with the need to obtain immediate funds to support a complex course of urgent care. Since Thursday, Armando Puddu, a 68-year-old restaurateur from Cagliari who moved to Indonesia a decade ago, has been in a coma at the Bangkok Hospital Samui in Thailand following a stroke in his sleep that caused a cerebral hemorrhage, with the promptness of his wife who saved his life . The family, with the help of the embassy, has managed to keep the cost of hospitalization as low as possible, but - after having used most of the money at their disposal for two emergency operations - they now have to face another emergency: Indonesian insurance does not cover expenses abroad and the stay in hospital costs the considerable sum of 3,000 euros per day plus medical expenses, for a total of 60,000 euros to be found in a very short time to follow a course of care that includes ten days in intensive care and another week in normal therapy.
His wife Giusy and two children Edoardo and Federica, who also live in Indonesia, have started a fundraiser that has so far reached around 30,000 euros . But help is still needed: "We cannot move our father for life or death reasons and we have run out of money for the two emergency operations," says Edoardo Puddu. "Only this hospital has the technology to treat the cerebral hemorrhage he had and it is mandatory that it remains there for intensive care. We ask the Sardinian people and anyone who can give us a hand to support our fundraiser: with a little help from everyone we can easily reach the amount needed to bring him back to Indonesia , where insurance covers the entire rehabilitation period and there are specialist doctors who can take care of him." The fundraiser was opened on the GoFundMe platform, with the title "United for Armando: let's help him return home" .
Armando Puddu worked in construction in Cagliari, then he decided to move to Indonesia. There, he and his wife (who is currently assisting him in hospital in Bangkok) opened a restaurant and shortly after they were joined by their children who also work in the restaurant business. The one in Thailand was the first vacation the couple had taken after retiring . Now these are days of great apprehension, having to deal with a country different from their home country and with economic emergencies that can no longer be postponed and must be resolved in a few days. "We want to bring dad home: we have finished everything, his situation is not stable and we need help immediately", the appeal of Edoardo Puddu , who with the little money left managed to book a flight to Bangkok on Tuesday to be close to his father.
