An agreement was finally reached to avoid forced eviction from the Is Arenas sports complex. This morning, teamwork between Social Services and the local police allowed the issue to be resolved without tension. An on-site inspection followed negotiations with the City Council's social workers, which began a few days ago. The locker rooms on Via S'Arrulloni have been vacant since Saturday, and the couple, with six children in tow, vacated the building they had converted into a home a few months ago and accepted a housing subsidy from the City Council. Meanwhile, the other family—who have been occupying the former caretaker's house without title for five years—has requested a few days' time to move out, promising to collect everything and return the keys by next Monday.
The problem of illegal occupation of the former Quartu stadium threatened to stall the start of construction after the final green light was given to the project to redevelop the stands , locker rooms, and what was once the caretaker's lodge in front of the pitch on Via S'Arrulloni, the former home of the Rossoblù. The project was financed with €1.6 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), plus half a million from the Municipality. In recent weeks, the City Council's Sports Department had signed eviction orders, setting August 11th as the deadline for the two families to vacate the buildings at the municipal sports facility. "In the meantime, we have offered them housing solutions, which they have accepted," explained the Department of Social Services.
Just enough time for a mini post-occupation cleanup, then the redevelopment work at Is Arenas – presumably after the summer break – can really begin .
